Description
Right next to leafy Hagley Park, Dorset House is a unique and comfortable environment from which to enjoy all that Christchurch has to offer. Set amidst flower gardens, Dorset House was built in 1871 as the home for the wealthy timber merchant J.B Way - it once featured 27 rooms and three Italian marble fireplaces. It has been recently refurbished to provide modern, upmarket backpacker accommodation, without losing its essential character.
Our rooms are comfortable, freshly cleaned, and bathed in afternoon sun. All rooms are within 3-7 metres of a modern bathroom, complete with hairdryers. There are no bunk beds here, and all beds are fully made. Electric blankets & heaters are provided in the winter, and there's a sunny outdoor deck for lazy breakfasts when the weather's fine!
Dorset House is packed with great facilities. We have a well-equipped kitchen available for guest use, and there’s a laundry too. We offer free car parking, bike storage, luggage storage, a mail holding service, and a full tour and travel desk. Our guest lounge is huge, and offers internet and WiFi, a free pool table, cable TV and New Zealand-wide travel information. The ideal home-away-from-home for the budget traveller, we look forward to seeing you soon at Dorset House.
