As I lived there a time, I want to share some experience with those who are going there. The best point to start for a traveller is probably one of the south parts of ther city. You can find all type of hostels, hotels und motels there. I used to live in Copacabana and Ipanema, there you can find probably the biggest and most beautiful "city beaches". That's surely one of the reasons that they are growded anytime. Take a tour though the hostelfinder, to explore some placs to sleep. I added some bars, etc , see the barfinder.
